How do I Drain an Intex Easy Set Pool?

Intex Easy Set Pool

Intex Easy Set Pool

An easy way to drain an Intex Easy Set Pool is to take a garden hose and disconnect it from the tap. Remove the cap from the drain valve on the outside of the pool wall.

Attach the female end of the hose to hose valve. Place the end of the hose in an area where the water can be safely drained. A lower point then the pool water level like down a hill would be best if possible.

Remove the drain plug on the inside of the pool. Water will start to drain immediately.

If you still have water left in the pool because the water is below the drain valve, you may have to use a sump pump or a shop vac to remove the remaining water.

Disconnect hose adapter when finished. Replace drain plug on the inside of pool for storage. Replace drain cap on outside of pool.

Be sure pool liner is completely clean and dry before long-term storage.  You can also sprinkle the inside of the pool with baby powder to add a nice smell and get rid of the last bit of moisture if you are planning on storing your pool for the winter.

Storing Your Intex Easy Set Pool

Store the pool in a garage or some place out of the cold and the snow. If you are careful with the take down, storage, and re-assembly your pool should last many years, probably longer than if you left it up year round.

If you are draining your Intex Easy Set Pool because it was lopsided, make sure you level the ground completely before you refill your Intex Easy Set Pool or you will have the same problem again.

How to Level Ground for Intex Pools?

Why do you need to have level ground for Intex Pools?  This is one of the most important steps to take when setting up your Intex Pool.  If you do it right the first time you will save yourself from having to empty your pool and start over again.  Saving many hours of work and frustration after the pool is filled with water.  Without a level ground, your pool can lean to one side, possibly getting worse with time.

How do you level ground for Intex Pools?  First you should pick a spot that is almost level, if possible. Do not have more than a 2” difference in height from side to side. If there is more than a 2” difference from the high side to the low side, you will need to remove soil from the high side.

After you have a site that is fairly level you will need to remove any large weeds or grass plants.  You may want to consider using a weed killer in the area where the pool will be placed.  Some weeds can grow through the ground tarp and pool bottom.  It is better to spend the time to get rid of unwanted weeds than to deal with a problem after your pool is up and filled with water.

Once your site has no more than a 2” difference from side to side and you have removed any unwanted weeds you are ready for the next step. You will start placing sand over the site with more sand being placed over the lower end.

Next you will need a straight 2”x4” piece of lumber that is approximately 2 feet longer than the diameter of your pool.  You may have to attach two 2x4s together to get one long enough.

Using a 2×4 to Level Ground for Intex Pools

Use the long 2×4 with a level sitting on top to do a rough leveling of the sand, moving the sand around as needed. Next step is to drill a hole in the very center of the 2×4 so you can insert a 3/8” rod through it and then pound the rod into the sand and ground at the center of the pool site.

This will allow you to spin the long 2×4 around with a level sitting on top and get the sand absolutely level for you pool.  Scrape off any extra sand and fill in with sand any spots that are to low.

The next step is to use a garden hose and thoroughly wet the sand. You will then use a tamper to thoroughly tamp down the entire area of sand making sure you tamp down the sand approximately one foot beyond the diameter of the pool.

You will then wet the sand again and tamp down the sand a second time.  Use the long 2×4 to check that the sand is completely level.  Fill in or scrape off high and low spots.

You will know if the sand is tamped down enough, to have your level ground for Intex Pools,  by walking on the sand.  If you barely leave a footprint then you have tamped the sand enough. If you leave a deep footprint then you will need to spray the sand again with water and then tamp some more.

You will save yourself hours of work and frustration after your pool is filled with water if you spend the time to have level ground for Intex Pools right from the start.
